This experiment of Ariely's made me laugh, especially when I read the results at the end of the chapter. What, take a young man to the peak of arousal and get him to answer questions about what he finds arousing? Isn't this just a little ridiculous? Where were the questions such as: do you find a can of coke arousing, do you find a curved line arousing? I'll bet those percentages would have gone up as well.

This is one case where irrationality truly arises (pardon the bad pun), but it seems rather obvious and something not needing much in the way of scientific evidence to prove, as you imply. No, we are not rational when overcome with whatever type of passion it may be. That is not a new finding.
