In this chapter we get to know more about Harvey Julian. He certainly seemed to have it all. Male model looks, intelligence, courage. On the other hand, the author is playing with the reader a bit; revealing positive attributes while only sparingly hinting at potential issues. This is not a criticism. In fact, in many ways it is the way we live. We don't know everything as we go along, and often, things add up only after-the-fact.

Another issue is that we already know the end of the story. We know that Tere lives, and eveyone else dies. How do you generate and keep interest in a book under those conditions?

By making us want to know more.

We want to know more about Harvey, and we want to know more about Tere and her family.
