I happen to live near the area where these events take place, sort of. I grew up in Brevard County, Florida which is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. If you have never seen the ocean then it is difficult to imagine how immense it is. Standing on the beach and looking east there is nothing but water. Well, that is not exactly true. Fish jump, sharks show their fins, porpoise breach and that is what a terran sees. On board a boat, the world comes alive and did for Tere Jo and her family. I have sailed and did not like it especially. There is toom much to pay attention to and the boat leans. But that was a small sailboat, onboard the Bluebelle one could imagine a different world. A world where there is not sound of a motor. Where the boat is integrated into the environment and not a trespasser. That is what Alone presents. For the vacation starts off just as Tere's father dreamed, and it is hard to imagine a more pleasant experience than being on the ocean, in nice weather. When you see the pictures of the resorts like Sandals, you are looking at the kind of beaches they visited. Alone does a great job of conveying the feeling of freedom.
