Email interview questions for Howard Bloom on The Genius of the Beast

Unread post

We'll be conducting an email interview of Howard Bloom on "The Genius of the Beast." Please write some quality questions for Howard here in this thread. Make sure your questions contain no emoticons or images as your question, and his answers, will be posted as a chat transcript.

It would be very helpful if you use this thread ONLY for complete grammatically correct questions that can be emailed to Howard. This thread is not for actual discussion of the book. Run your question through a spell checker so that we don't need to make any edits. We reserve the right to edit questions if necessary.

As soon as we have a handful of good questions they will be forwarded to Howard. When he replies we'll either post the replies right here in this thread or we'll create a new transcript page. That page will be added to the index of chat transcripts at http://www.booktalk.org/transcripts.html

Questions for Howard Bloom:

How will the book's success be accurately measured?

Is the goal realistically attainable?

Some questions

1. How does the 'expand then consolidate' model of life presented in The Genius of the Beast relate to consciousness? Are you suggesting that all life is conscious? Does this suggest the modern theory of consciousness as limited solely to linguistic representation is deficient?

2. The Genius of the Beast frequently refers to the 'messianic' dimension in capitalism. How does this claim relate to conventional theories of messianic salvation? Do you see the 'right wing' framework of the redemption of capitalism as in tension with Christian ideas of messianic transformation, which often give more weight to compassionate works of mercy for the downtrodden of the earth? Do you see the 'Matthew Principle', to those who have will be given, as the core of the messianic vision of Jesus Christ?

3. What are the main lessons you bring to philosophy from your work as broker for pop stars such as Rick Springfield and Prince?
