I've only just reached these chapters and so have only just read this thread. What fun!

GR9 is propositioning Tom. Two weeks ago, but hey...we've all decided there is no such thing as time..

Oy..modern houses in England vary. Some are very well built and some are an insult. My house is old and draughty - but the heating system is good. A draughty house is a healthy house. I like a cold bedroom but a warm bed. We have lived in this draughty house for nearly thirty years and we haven't ailed much. Lancashire and Chesire are very damp counties and not good for people with chest ailments or rheumatism. That is why it was good for spinning and weaving cotton (they told us at school) and for paper-making. Yorkshire is a dryer atmosphere and they spin a weave wool there.

I am just reflecting on the 'spiritual' matters.

I am posting this on the wrong thread, but I think it belongs here:-

We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Ode - Arthur O'Shaughnessy

:eek: Penelope, you gossip! I was momentarily smitten by his gorgeous writing mind and asked him to elope with me. I'm impulsive like that. Haven't you noticed? I think it's a form of "poor impulse control." Some people who have it do violent and criminal acts and go to prison. I become swiftly smitten and propose elopement at once to respectable, refined gentlemen* I've never met who live thousands of miles away and who will almost certainly say no. Really, my version of "poor impulse control" is relatively benign and safe for all. And Thomas thought it was nice. He said so. Now I'm embarassed. though. I am not the brazen hussy you may imagine. (Although that would have been a fun username identity in retrospect.... Kind of like dressing up for fun. Oh well. I like being GentleReader9. Someone else can be BrazenHussy.)

*Gentleman, actually, that's the only time I've done exactly that, but it's the kind of thing I would do, I admit.

GR9 - Don't be embarrassed for goodness sake!!!

If we like and admire people, we should tell them.....otherwise what's the point? Flirting outrageously is fun.....and to be encouraged.

I'm sure it has brightened Tom's days. Me, I'm grateful if I get a wolf-whistle from a building site. I still get the odd whistle, if the men are high enough up and far enough away...... and if the light is behind me:laugh:
