Post Under our names - on our posts - Are you undermining us?
It says:-

'Am I great or......'

It makes me feel as though I think my opinions matter.

I know my opinions don't matter!!!!!

But it is good to be able to express them. Whomever you are...please put something else under my name....anything will do.

Gobshite...will do....That is a good old Lancashire term!

Post Re: Under our names - on our posts - Are you undermining us?
i think you sell yourself short, Penelope. Of course your opinion matters.

Nobody is trying to insult you with those titles. They are meant to be light and humorous, while also drawing attention to member's level of activity on the boards.

You could talk to Chris if you really don't like that title, but otherwise it will change as your post count increases. There are other humorous titles down the road, and they might strike a nerve with you as well if you are insulted by such an innocuous title as that.

Your opinions do matter, of course. But johnson is right--you can become less great by posting more!

A great phactory philosopher once told me that opinions do matter. They are like anuses, which also matter. Every one has one and they usually stink.

I agree with with Penelope the cutesy phrases could be left out with little loss.

I just noticed that my encomiastic label has changed to "literary master." That's one I'd like to keep and to dream of being worthy of. It's a fiction, but I like it anyway. These little phrases are kind of cute.

Oh I usually like the titles under our names, it is just that this one made me feel uncomfortable but definitely not insulted johnson.

I should know that you Americans don't beat around the bush.....if you think I'm pontificating...I know you'll say so in no uncertain terms.

I just had a little wobble there. :(

Post Re: Under our names - on our posts - Are you undermining us?
Most people have expressed that they like the rank titles. One thing I've found over the years is that it is impossible to please everyone all the time. If the rank titles were deleted many people would complain that we deleted a personal touch that they enjoyed. If we changed all of them to a positive message many people would complain that we're being boring. Yes, some titles are humorous and some are subtle jabs. The point is to get a small chuckle and to give people the anticipation of what rank title comes next. Most of the rank titles are very flattering.

Penelope, at 1750 your title becomes, "Book Aficionado."

Well, I thought it was a subtle jab, and thought it was suggesting that I might want to modify the content of my posts.

I'll be the first to admit that it does no harm to check my sense of humour levels regularly, as sometimes I think I have a bowl of pompous for breakfast.

We could still use at least another dozen new rank titles so if you have suggestions please share them.
