WANTED: Book suggestions for our next NON-FICTION book discussion!
November & December 2015 and January 2016
READ BELOW BEFORE POSTING

Please post in this thread your book suggestions for our next non-fiction book discussion. Include the title, author and a link to where we can learn more about the book. It helps significantly if you tell us why you're suggesting the book too.

Ideally, limit your suggestions to only one or two books please.

And do not suggest books here if you have no intention of actually participating in the next non-fiction book discussion.

We're reading and discussing Guy P. Harrison's Good Thinking in October, November and December 2015. So this suggestion thread is designed to help us select a different non-fiction book that will potentially be discussed in November, December and January. That way we have two non-fiction discussions running concurrently with some overlap. Not everyone likes every non-fiction title so this offers a bit of variety.

And please read the suggestions other people make. If you like one of them say so! :-)

Anyone interested in business topics?

The Effortless Experience by Matthew Dixon.

Explores the new paradigm for customer loyalty. Is WOWing a client really beneficial? Or does the modern consumer just want to get what they need quickly and without hassle? Does traditional customer service actually degrade loyalty?

Filled with good exposition and supporting research, this book was put on my company's reading list by our new President. With new startups popping up and challenging traditional business models, we find ourselves in a battle against creative destruction of many industries. Who will make the changes needed to survive?

A business book I recently read that covers similar themes around creative destruction, innovation, the internet economy and also crowd funding, is BOLD - How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World by Peter Diamandis.
http://www.amazon.com/Bold-Create-Wealt ... 1476709564

BOLD is a superb book, including personal interviews with Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson and Larry Page. I have just won the MIT Climate Colab Energy Water Nexus Competition and will go to Boston to present at the Crowds and Climate Conference next week, where the themes in BOLD will be at the centre of the discussions.

"Dirty Wars" is my type of book for sure. Best suggestion so far.

I'm hoping other people will find it appealing too.

Saving Capitalism: For the Many, Not the Few by Robert Reich.
Reich exposes the falsehoods that have been bolstered by the corruption of our democracy by huge corporations and the revolving door between Washington and Wall Street: that all workers are paid what they’re “worth,” that a higher minimum wage equals fewer jobs, and that corporations must serve shareholders before employees. He shows that the critical choices ahead are not about the size of government but about who government is for: that we must choose not between a free market and “big” government but between a market organized for broadly based prosperity and one designed to deliver the most gains to the top. Ever the pragmatist, ever the optimist, Reich sees hope for reversing our slide toward inequality and diminished opportunity when we shore up the countervailing power of everyone else.

Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue by Sam Harris and Maajid Nawaz.
Back in Islam’s formative centuries, the engagement of Muslims with their ideological opponents helped them to forge the doctrines and traditions of their nascent faith―and perhaps now, as Maajid Nawaz locks horns with Sam Harris, we are at the start of another stage in Islam’s evolution. It is certainly a privilege to read their conversation, and to enjoy a flavor of those great debates between rival scholars that were once staged for the entertainment of the Caliph in Baghdad. (Tom Holland, historian and author of In the Shadow of the Sword: The Birth of Islam and the Rise of the Global Arab Empire)
Maajid Nawaz is the author of Radical and a cofounder and the chairman of Quilliam―a globally active think tank focusing on religious freedom, extremism, and citizenship.

Just published yesterday. Sure to inspire an illuminating discussion here. :chatsmilies_com_92:
