Re: The Hot 100
Last time I looked we had a copy where I work - and I fancied dipping into it but would have liked some guidance on appreciation of the selection.......... appreciation, Giselle!!!!
I could copy and paste the selections onto here and you, others, could do the initial commentary, if you like.

Re: The Hot 100
If one person has the book, and the poems can be looked up online, that solves the problem. All we'd need is a list of the poems, and then we could follow saffron's suggestion of taking turns posting them. It depends on whether Heaney and Hughes chose poems that someone has thought deserve to be online. I'm thinking, of course, that nobody wants to go typing in the poems. Even if everyone had the book, it's nice for the poem to be seen on booktalk.

True, and anyway, if we don't actually post the poems, we are unlikely to attract new customers, so to speak.
Is Walt Whitman's 'Leaves of Grass' just one poem, or is it a collection of his poetry? I like what I've seen of his work although I don't know much about him.

Re: The Hot 100
"Leaves of Grass" is the collection that Whitman added to and revised throughout his life. "Song of Myself' is the major poem in it, and the one I like the best. I'm not that keen on some of Whitman's poems. I think your Hughes/Heaney anthology idea is good, if somebody can find a copy in order to see whether the poems would be found online.

I'll go to the bookstore on Friday/Saturday, get it, and check out the selection. We are out for the day tomorrow so I can't go then.
Penny, once you have the book feel free to start us off. I will set up the thread today. I just figured out that my book is coming from the UK and should arrive mid May! I had no idea when I ordered it.

Penny ... Any guidance I could offer on matters of poetry would have to be taken with a grain of salt, or less. But I appreciated your suggestion enough to buy the Rattlebag book and I'm now playing a waiting game with Amazon. I see a 'Rattlebag' thread has started, so looks like you have really fired this up!

I'm going up to the shop tomorrow morning. It might not be open because there's a wedding going on somewhere - but I've got a key, so I'll still be able to go in and get the book.
I'm not going to sit glued to the TV screen, but I will have the TV on all day because I want to see the frock and also the wedding outfits of the guests. Shallow....you see...just a shallow person, me.
