Ophelia, you are too cute. I should have clarified what 'indie' meant and I am truly sorry for that. The upside of this is that you get to join our discussion

Cinemax-Asia is showing independent films on Tueday nights. Last night they showed a movie which I had been looking forward to seeing for a long time, A Prairie Home Companion. I liked moments of the film, but, like many of Robert Altman's movies, was disappointed overall. A great cast (Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Woody Harrelson, Michael C. Reilly, and Garrison Keillor - author of the book on which the movie is based). Some great bluegrass music (Meryl sings!), but a slim story. I think I'd rather have a CD of the soundtrack than a DVD of the movie.
So, I'm looking forward so seeing what they show next Tuesday.

Hi Penny!
No, not avoiding at all. I am now in panic mode seeing as my wedding is about two months away and my dad had been pretty sick and in the hospital for a couple of weeks so now I am getting back into things again.

Cool Topic
My Life Without Me comes to mind. I saw it at a travelling film festival about four years ago and it's stuck with me ever since. It's about a young mother who finds out that she's dying of cancer and doesn't tell anybody. Instead she sets out to make a series of tape recordings for her daughters as they grow up. It's heartwrenching but it also has some very beautiful moments.
A few other favourites would be One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest, Crash, Magnolia, Memento, American Beauty, Hotel Rwanda and Donnie Darko. I love independant films because they usually present such a different perspective in the way that stories are told.

Amelie is a gorgeous film, I agree. Not sure if this is indie but "Spring Forward" with Liev Schreiber and Ned Beattie was a small but incredible flick... a quiet understated story with two very cool guys swapping life philosophies and becoming better people for it.

Re: The last Indie film you've seen/or just your favorite...
Dummy was a cute movie.
Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich (two of my favorite actors) are both unemployed. She plays in a band, he's trying to pursue his dream of being a ventriloquist. He lives with his parents and sister, and their drama plays a large role in the movie and is very funny. His sister (played by Ileanna Douglas) is a wedding planner, and when she needs a klezmer band to play at someone's wedding, Milla Jovovich's character steps up to the plate, learns Yiddush, and teaches her metal/punk band how to play klezmer and amazingly, they pull it off. It's not the best film ever, but it was touching and fun. I would definitely recommend it. Much fun.

Everything is Illuminated is a wonderful film. I adore Eugene Hutz and his band, Gogol Bordello. Their music can also be seen in another indie flick, Wristcutters: A Love Story. Another fun and darkly comical film.

The first time I ever heard of Gogol Bordello was four years ago when my boyfriend at the time took me to their concert and I had no idea what I was in for! It was such a fun surprise, everyone dancing and screaming that I have loved them since then.
