Suggestion
Chris,
I have a suggestion. What about having a person's online status appear in the left hand bar on the side of every post. That way, when you were reading someone's post, you'd know if they were currently online. Sometimes when I am reading a post, I think it would be so nice to be able to have an instant communication with the person posting. I guess I am still thinking of ways to alert someone you want to invite them to a live conversation, either by chat room or IM.

Chris,
Here is an idea from Ophelia.

Actally... what would be nice was if everybody heard the little music you hear when you enter the chatroom ... so people would know but would not feel pressurized.

I think we'll have this suggestion implemented tonight. Not the little sound...but the text part of the notification.

Ok, the Online or Offline status suggestion has been implemented. I will see if there is a way to add the chat room sound.

Wow! Pretty cool. I wonder what other people think of the new feature.

Yes, it is an interesting feature.
We'll have to see if it helps to give the chat room a new life.
As a test, before this new feature, I went to the chat room on three occasions when you were on line, and I guess you didn't see me.
Perhaps we can brainstorm about using the chatroom for casual chats -- even I don't check the chat room box most of the time because I'm so used to the room's being empty.

I can't believe I missed you in the chatroom. I think I have also stopped paying attention to it because I assume it is empty. We definitely need some sort of alert, auditory or visual, that someone is in the chatroom.
