There had been a painting that caught my attention lately. It was related to my work. The painting itself was called "Portret van Aletta Martens-Pater".
I remember I had seen the painting before in a book. I've no clue what the book is called but it would be awesome if someone else knew.
Speaking of art books. My favorite one is "Bewaar de schoonheid" from Maria ter Steeg. A book about religious art. |

Hi,
I thought I'd do some research to help find the book, but no luck in any of the databases I subscribe to. (None are on art specifically). In fact, even Google came up empty - this thread was the only hit google could find.
Can you provide more information on the painting?

| Yeah, I did a search on the painting and came up dry. That's not all that unusual if it's a recent painting, though. |

| Taste in art is so subjective, I wonder if you can tell us what about the painting interested you in the first place. |

It's 07-01-'8 already, so first of all, Happy new year everyone!
As for the question. (sorry for the very late reply) I agree with tastes in art are very subjective.
The painter was well-known in Utrecht (the netherlands, europe) because he could paint very beautiful and natural facial expressions. I also grew up in Utrecht and I'm quite interested in it's history.
This painting amongst the others had a interesting storyline. That's because the family's portret had a lot of wealth and power. Due to marriage, families could take over each others possessions.
When I look at paintings, I pay more attention to the feelings I get when I watch it and it's history. The painting itself gives me a very peaceful feeling. |
