Re: Seen any good movies recently?
Wilde, the original came out in 1984. I was 2.

I, too am a nerd of many sorts. Don't let my singular obsessive posts on BookTalk fool you. I am a Shakespeare nerd, as you have said, but I am also very much a Star Wars nerd, a Ghostbusters nerd, a Joss Whedon nerd, a Futurama nerd, a zombie nerd, a horror nerd, a sci-fi nerd, a history nerd, a musical nerd, a music in general nerd, a language nerd, an 80s-90s pop culture nerd, and of course, a general "I love learning and knowledge" sort of nerd.
I am not, however, in any way, shape, or form, a math nerd. I hate math, so I get out of that one.
There are probably many other things that count as some form of nerd or another, so I usually just say I am an all around nerd, and damn proud of it. Nerds of the world unite!

I saw the new Nightmare on Elm Street today. It was good! Jackie Earle Haley was Freddy, which was the main reason I wanted to see it.
I really want to see this, too. I loved Jackie Earle Haley in Watchmen, and can't wait to see how he does as Freddy, although I will miss Johnny Depp and his teen eating bed.

Were you around for the original nightmare on elm street?
I was, but I was far too easily scared to see any of the originals as a kid. I unintentionally saw Wes Craven's New Nightmare in junior high before I had a chance to see the first one, which relieved me of any fear I had because it was so campy, and caught part of the 4th Freddy movie (it was one of the "Dream" movies, I think it was the Dream Master, not positive) on TV at like 3 am my first year of college, and I finally got to watch the original Nightmare on Elm Street a few years ago, and absolutely loved it, and I seriously wondered where it had been all my life, even though I know it would have scared the hell out of me as a kid.
It's funny that I was once terrified by even my own shadow, and now can't be scared by a movie even if I want to be. I can be disturbed for a time afterward if the subject touches on something that is personally relevant, but it's not the same as being scared. The transformation just amuses me.

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
I think if they were ever to make a Sex Pistols movie, Haley should play John Lydon (Johnny Rotten). Seriously, he looks almost exactly like Johnny Rotten, and I'm sure they could work with him on making his voice sound a little higher pitched and British. That would be a rock biopic worth seeing. I'm still waiting for The Runaways, which apparently won't come to any theaters near my town. I really dislike Kristen Stewart, but I love Joan Jett so it's a film I'm willing to see despite my distaste for an actress. Who knows, maybe she'll surprise me? I did read that she's doing all her own singing, and that she actually worked with Joan Jett to learn how to do her growl. Only time will tell on that one...I'll be sure to post what I think of it here.

Yeah, I don't like Kristen Stewart at all either. She always looks & sounds bored, like she'd rather be anywhere else. But, apparently she did learn the guitar and sing in the movie, so I'll give her credit for that.

I watched Survival of the Dead today. It's in theaters on the 28th, buuut if you have an xbox 360, you can find it under the zune thing. I liked it. It wasn't really original or anything, but it was Romero. If you saw Diary of the Dead, it's mostly about the group of rogue soldiers who stole the RV.

OOOOOhhhh that sounds interesting. I liked Diary of the Dead, but found it lacking in believability as far as the camera work, because it's supposed to be shot by a film student in the midst of fear and chaos and all handheld, but it is wayyyyy too well shot and edited for that to have been the case. Romero is way too particular to let his movie literally be in the hands of the actors, and couldn't resist editing every shot to make you see exactly what he wants you to see, and I can't blame him for that because that's why I love him, of course. Other than that I thought it was a decent movie. Not his best, but not bad. I'm interested to see what he does with this new one. No spoilers!

The movie's only 89 minutes and it's pretty much all new characters, so you don't really have time to pick a favorite or anything. Some scenes are funny, and some are really gorey.
Oh, Iron Man 2's out tomorrow!

Oh yeah it is!! I very much unexpectedly loved the first one. That was the moment when Robert Downey Jr. went from tolerable to lovable for me.
Might have to be a movie weekend!!

Very good book. Hopefully the movie holds up.
I know! The book was so awesome and composed very well, so I don't expect anything will be better than reading it, but I'm still looking forward to what they do come up with. I forgot that was this year. Sheesh, time flies.

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
I just watched Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, the film version of Tom Stoppard's play (which he wrote and directed so it's still authentic) for the second time. It's a very lovely absurdist companion piece to Hamlet, which I watched a few days ago and is still fresh in my mind. If I had my way, I'd always watch the two as a set, because Stoppard really knows his Shakespeare and his existentialism (of which Hamlet definitely has undertones), and the result is both hilarious and cathartic and all around amazing writing.
I am a very big fan of Tom Stoppard, both his screenplays and stage plays. He knows dialogue like almost no one else, and can say very heavy, meaningful things in a way that doesn't make you aware that he's hitting you with such heavy stuff. Awesome.

Hmmm...wonder if I'll get to see Iron Man 2 in theaters or have to wait for DVD? Thanks for the tip about the credits.
I may have to stay away from Inception, even with its inclusion of Cillian Murphy. Maybe I'll look into the story, but I really, really hate Leonardo DeCantActio. Like, loathing, crawling, venomous hate. Yich. Don't hold your breath or anything.

I like Dicaprio. It also has whatsherface from Juno. I don't like her very much.
From the preview, the Dicaprio character recruits people so that they can steal secrets from peoples' subconscious (via going into their dreams). The process of doing that is called (you guessed it) inception. There's other stuff that happens of course, but that's the basic premise.
It's also directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Dark Knight). It's kind of funny, because it has the director of TDK, the music is done by the same person who did the music for TDK, and it also has Cillian Murphy who was in TDK.
