Re: Seen any good movies recently?
My wife and daughter and I saw "Toy Story 3" yesterday and liked it a lot. It's an achievement that through the three movies the inventiveness and freshness didn't slacken (unlike with, say, "Shrek," where the second one was so bad I wouldn't see the third for pay). I don't like any kind of action movie, live-action or cartoon, but at least the toy stories keep things interesting by showing the toys using their toyness to get out of scrapes. Mr. & Mrs Potato Head and Buzz Lightyear are a riot, but they're not the only funny ones. I was teary-eyed at the end of this, which surprised me.

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
We watched Legion tonight. Not bad, but not great. Kind of cheesy, poor writing, but Paul Bettany rocked hardcore, and it was worth watching it just for him. Dennis Quaid can't act to save his barely existing career. In every role he plays an exaggerated version of himself, and it makes the character not only unbelievable, but laughable, and not because he's funny. The story itself was also incredibly predictable, but the visuals were pretty decent and the sound editing was good. We enjoyed it, overall, and although I'd definitely watch it again, it definitely won't make it to any favorites list.
Also interesting to note: Angel wings, a giant, heavy wingspan sort of wings, are utilized in very awesome ways as both shield and weapon in the movie. Great fight scenes, I'd have to say, especially with the angel and the possessed humans who crawl all over the place like Regen from The Exorcist wishes she could do.

While I agree with you for the most part, Dennis Quaid was brilliant as Jerry Lee Lewis in "Great Balls of Fire." He absolutely nailed it, and he's actually not a terrible singer -- he duets with Jerry Lee Lewis on the soundtrack for "Crazy Arms."
I just watched "The Marathon Man" for the first time and I have to say I was pretty impressed. It was definitely dated, but I do think it manages to handle the test of time. Laurence Olivier was great as Szell.
I also just watched "The Stoning of Soraya M." which was great, but the stoning scene was absolutely brutal. I had to get up and leave the room it was that tough. It was shot beautifully and acted wonderfully. It's also based on a true story which is horrifying....

I'd like to join the 'Toy Story 3 Made Me Cry' club. It's the first movie I've seen in theaters in about 8 months. Last movie I saw before that was Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3-D that came around my town. I'm really not sure why I got teary-eyed. Perhaps it was all of the reminiscing it inspired. The movie was surprisingly good for a 3rd movie, and it made me want to go into the attic and pull out some of my toys and stuffed animals from when I was a kid.

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
I just went to see "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" and it was a great movie. Right after the movie, I went and bought "The Girl Who Plays with Fire" and "The Girl that Kicked the Hornets Nest." I'm going to have to plow through them before the next two movies in the trilogy are released. The woman that plays Lisbeth Salander was amazing, and incredibly sexy. There are some pretty explicit sex scenes that may not go over well with some people, but I would definitely recommend it, the movie that is.
If anyone else has seen it, can you tell me if it is fairly close to the book?

"Hedwig & the Angry Inch" was entertaining
An old ex-friend of mine used to call Hedwig and the Angry Inch an "on the rag movie," because for some reason she always wanted to watch it when she was menstruating. She was a weird girl, and a very bad friend. In fact, I totally hate her guts. But oh well.
My boyfriend and I watched The Crazies tonight (the 2010 version), freaking awesome. Having seen the original (by George Romero, no less) gave me a point of reference, and even though the scripts are completely different and the focuses are opposite, there are enough similarities to be able to compare the two and see how the new movie uses Romero's idea and runs with it, and I have to honestly say that the remake is far more entertaining, has better cinematography, acting, and is scarier, more thrilling, more intriguing, and pure awesome. I will be buying the DVD as soon as possible. I freaking loved it.
Anyone who likes sci-fi horror movies should watch this movie ASAP. 5 stars. Awesome.

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
here's a list of programming i think should be seen.
The Host. (the south korean monster movie) already a classic. The Lost Room (SYFY mini-series about a hotel room sucked out of continuity) Moon (good dystopian future setting starring Sam Rockwell who puts on oscar worthy performance) Storm of the Century (Stephen King Mini series from late 90's. one of his best)

Re: Seen any good movies recently?
Tonight we watched The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, directed by Terry Gilliam. This was Heath Ledger's last film role before he died. The way Gilliam dealt with the problem of one of his lead actor's deaths is brilliant, and not only did he make the film "in memory of" him, the other actors who stepped in to play his character's different transformations donated all of their wages for working on the film to Ledger's daughter, who was left out of his will because it was an earlier copy and he hadn't had a chance to add her to it. My respect level for Terry Gilliam, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and even Colin Farrell went up considerably. It was a pretty decent movie. Very Terry Gilliam, but set in a way so that the strange things that always happen in his movies actually made sense. I would definitely recommend it to Monty Python fans, fans of anything anachronistic, bizarre, and visually stunning.

I loved Miss Potter so much that I had to buy it. Another great movie is Dawn Anna I love to watch movies as much as I love to read books.
