Re: Sam Harris shows off his Bible Knowledge
Stahrwe, truth be told I live in a community full of Christian fundies - SDA's and Sunday keeping fundies. I get along just fine with everyone in day to day life and don't really bother getting into heated topics like we do here on the forums. Once in a while I may indulge in some debate if I feel that it's the thing to do, but I generally avoid it these days.
You are the difference between BT and FTN!!! The difference is that you post here and not there. Both communities are dominately freethinking and privy to the mythological dimension of the bible. Mythicist views are held at both.
I was actually surprised by the level of insight and knowledge I found when I followed Tulips link to this forum. Frank, Interbane, Johnson, Geo, and several others have quite the back ground knowledge. That makes this forum unique in that way too. Plus the regular posters here are generally a well read and intellectually fit lot. That I enjoy as well. And of course you're the token fundie in these parts who keeps things fired up and lively all the time. So really it's pretty good all around because of the constant action and activity.
Yeah, Tulip wants you banned but I don't really care one way or the other at this point in time. I perceive your arguments and the usual straw men fallacies you provide here as very toothless and openly wrong, just as you percieve most of what I post. Hey, fairs fair and you certainly have the right feel that way about me, although I do strongly believe that your mind is completely deluded with mythological fantasy. Mine was too at one point, so I feel that I have the right to call it as it because I'm not excluding myself from those charges. I was very deluded when I believed in the bible literally. I don't mind sharing that particular folly along side of you. I actually had a hell of a laugh last December as I was driving up Wickham and passed by the Sarno intersection. All I could think of was your story about the garbage heep on Sarno road. Good stuff Stahrwe, you're always keeping it interesting.
But still I must insist that you're dead wrong about Harris, of course. I wish you could step out of your fixed perspective for a second long enough to see it from our view. I understand why you think that but Harris's comment really was given from an understanding of the 10 commandments and Jesus thereafter. He's not ignorant about the Golden Rule. I don't even fancy reading Harris myself, but I think you've raised a straw man fallacy here against Harris and that isn't dishonest of you to do that. You may not like him or what he stands for but raising a straw man isn't the best way to address that.
