I have been trying to convince a friend of mine to write a book about her life and she keeps saying that no one would want to read anything by her. So I finally got her to agree to write the book if 20 random people said yes they would read a book written by her.
I was living in the same city I graduated college from in 1979 and one activity I did regularly was Israeli folk dancing. I knew everyone by face and noticed that a new young man was present on one particular Sunday late March or early April. This young man of course was Brian, my husband today. We found ourselves standing next to each other watching others dance. I, for the first time, decided to be friendly and overcome my shyness by saying, “Hello, you are new here. My name is Diana.” He heard my deaf voice and was excited because just prior to this, he had asked another person how to sign, “Hi, my name is Brian.” He was thrilled to have an opportunity to show his skill. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on one’s view) he did that phrase so well, I thought he was an experienced signer and immediately turned off my voice and started using American Sign Language with him. Poor Brian! This is a cliché but applicable – “The rest was history.”
The book would be mainly about her and her husband who decided to build their dream home in the country with four young boys who they were un-schooling. They are now living in a passive solar geodesic dome that is completely off the grid because they have photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine to supply their energy.
P.S. I would appreciate if you posted why you said yes or no. |

I am assuming the middle paragraph should be in quotes. Am I right?
The story about how the couple met is interesting and would make for a good story, especially the part about life as a deaf person, but when you get to the part about the solar home I fell asleep. I wouldn't ever read a book about living off the grid, but this is just me. But the rest of the story does indeed sound interesting and worthy of sharing. |
