Private ads now for sale on BookTalk.org
Most of you will be happy to know that I've deleted all of the Google AdSense links off of our site. They weren't generating enough revenue to be worth the amount of space they occupied in our sidebars.
I'm now selling private advertising and you can check out the ad fee schedule at
http://www.booktalk.org/advertise.php. Quite frankly, we should have been offering private ads years ago when our traffic started to dramatically increase.
When we had the Google AdSense ads on our site Google would pay attention to how many times visitors clicked on them. Without getting into a long technical explanation many advertisers feel this is an inferior way to pay for ads as all sorts of fraudulent clicks can happen. Our system is much more pure and honest and any advertiser considering whether or not to advertise on BookTalk.org can make their decision without fear of fraudulent clicks. Our ads are sold in 30 day increments.
Technically speaking, we should be able to charge about $1.50 per thousand impressions for a small banner or text ad. We get about 300,000 page impressions per month so this translates into $450 per ad. Our sidebars could comfortably handle several such ad blocks and still have less ads then when we featured Google AdSense advertisements. So we could be earning thousands of dollars per month in ad revenue, which would translate into our own ability to place very targeted ads on relevant sites. The money comes into BookTalk.org from ad sales and exits through ad purchases.
As you can see our ad prices are far lower than what the industry suggests, but we have to start somewhere and starting lower seems appropriate. As time goes by we will learn what advertisers feel are fair prices for BookTalk.org ads and we'll move towards those figures.
Please note that there no longer is such thing as fraudulent clicks on our ads.
So please visit our advertisers as they are struggling as much as we are to reach out and find their target audience. Explore the ad sites as often as possible and definitely visit the Text Links in the "Sites to Explore" box in the right sidebar. Currently, those sites didn't pay for their ads as I wanted to fill the box with links right away.
Thanks for reading this!
