I'm back from the IPPYS and BOOK EXPO in NY with a big smile on my face and a Silver Medal around my neck. It doesn't get better than this for a first-time author. Suzy

I picked up this book because of the information about it on this thread. I just finished it and enjoyed it very much. It certainly is a page turner. Ms. Wittens' thesis on the causes of the witch trials are certainly plausible and the characters and story were very realistic. It's easy to see why this book received the awards that it has.

THE AFFLICTED GIRLS A Novel of Salem by Suzy Witten (ISBN: 978-0-615-32313-8) available for Nook, Kindle, iPad, Kobo, and in Paperback. Winner of 2010 IPPY Silver Medal for Historical Fiction (Adult Fiction for ages 17 & older, 456 pages)
"Something terrible happened in Salem Village in 1692 ... but it isn't what you think!"
Centering her story on Salem Village and its inhabitants, exploring their dark household corners as if she is solving a crime, the author adeptly details how the disintegration occurred while spinning familiar facts in new directions, with the mysterious "afflictions" finally explained. Part parable, part star-crossed romance, and part supernatural venture, THE AFFLICTED GIRLS is an intuitive human history--and inhuman--spun with a modern twist.
