I'm curious if any other BookTalk members watched Nashville Star this season. The final episode was last night and Erika Jo took first place.
First of all I have to say that I'm a country music lover. While I love just about every genre of music, country has been my favorite for the past 10 years or more. Nothing else captures raw emotion as much as the passionate lyrics of country IMO.
The purpose of my post is to see if anyone else watched it, and to see if you agree with the outcome. In my opinion, the 2nd place winner was far better as a musician, singer and performer than Erika Jo. His name is Jason Meadows, and I am making the prediction that he will become as big a country star as Garth Brooks or George Strait. He simply kicks ass.
So why didn't he win 1st place? Thanks for asking. I'll share my theory...
Anastasia, one of the 3 judges, along with Lee Ann Rimes, the hostess, royally screwed the outcome of the show. Both of these women made comments, on camera, repeatedly, about how it was "about time a woman won this contest," and how, "America is ready for a female Nashville Star." I forget the exact words they both used, but it was highly inappropriate for them to show favoritism and draw attention to the obvious bias of the viewing audience for male Nashville Stars.
The moment they started making such comments I said to my father, "Lovely, now every female will have a subconscious desire to support the female." The reality is Jason Meadows was better in all respects, but after about 5 total gender related comments I think Anastasia and Lee Anne Rimes swayed enough voters to tip things in favor of Erika Jo.
I'm done venting now.
The real test will be seeing what happens over the next year. Which one makes it bigger as a star? Erika has the advantage obviously, as she walks away from the contest with a record deal, a new pickup truck, and national exposure. But I still predict Jason Meadows will out shine her.
