Post does anyone have the dragon voice activated typing program!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am asking this question because I am 100% disabled, have major problems with my wrists and I have been using the Dragon voice-activated typing system. My question is, what do I do to keep errors from coming up. Sometimes, I say word and a totally different word comes up then one I pronounce. I've tried saving as many words as possible into the program and it still does the same thing. If anyone has a system please let me know if you've had problems like this. I speak rather clearly and misspelled words and sometimes totally different words come up. It drives me crazy.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Post Re: does anyone have the dragon voice activated typing program!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My soon-to-be ex-wife had serious wrist problems for a while. She used Dragon voice recognition software to write Perl code in emacs. Geeks, who understand what that entails, always grimace when they hear about that. Fortunately, my wife is bright enough to do excellent work despite that limitation.

I'm sorry. I am not a computer geek and need to be told everything in English/layman's terms. If you can help me or somebody else, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have the Dragon system and also have much higher error rates than advertised. I was told that a USB microphone would provide better results than the one provided with the software. So far I have not tried it. Sometimes my sessions are nearly error free but most times the have about a 40% rate. The makers of Dragon recently offered me an upgrade but it isn't that much of a problem for me. I would be interested in hearing how the professional versions work.

stahrwe........ I would say that I have about a 40% rate is well. I have not tried a USB microphone yet what frustrates me is when I dictate everyday words and it picks up something else. I really count on this program as i absolutely have major trouble typing by hand and I'm being treated for it. For the first time, I am going to have Botox in both of my wrists and I hope and pray it works but for now I need this typing system to work at a better rate than it does. Now I see why it isn't extremely highly rated but right now I guess it's better than nothing and i rely on a system a lot to promote our book. Thank you for reassuring me that it isn't just me who's having problems with this system.

No need to reply to this but as encouragement many devices are now using voice recognition software and as the prevalence of such devices increases so should their accuracy.

One thing I have to confess is that I did not do the full dictation calibration. The material was so long I found it impracticle to do so. Perhaps that contributes to the error rate I am experiencing now. When the salesperson called to upgrade me I told her about the errors and she seemed very familiar with that. She told me that the special USB microphone they had would give me a 30% improvement. I didn't tell her but 30% of 40% would only bring me to ~50% so for $150 it wasn't worth it. Don't get me wrong, I use Dragon Speech to write my books and really enjoy not having to type. My typing skills yield about 30% so I am only losing 10% for the convenience and sometimes the substitutions are funny enough to be entertaining. It is supposed to improve overtime but my experience is that it sometimes seems to regress.

Hang in there.

I know you told me that I did not have to respond to your post but, some of the things that this program actually types is way too funny! And if I make a stink about it, it types that too....... minus the four letter words. I have tried to program them in though but this program won't seem to take it! if the TV is on real loud, it types what they are saying on that program. I have to be a totally quiet room or my families conversations were picked up and the program types that too. sometimes I think it is funny but sometimes it is the biggest pain in the ass. I guess you feel the same way.
