Re: Teens buying books at fastest rate in decades
I agree. This decade has produced some of the finest young adult literature (speaking as a young adult myself) and it's really helped me continue reading. I know that when I was in high school (which was months ago, I sound like I've been out for years

) I had some friends who liked to read but didn't read a lot of classics (I think I was the only person in my Lit class who loved Steinbeck), but they read stuff like Sarah Dessen or Stephenie Meyer (-shudder-), which I think is great. For me, it doesn't really matter what you read, as long as you're reading. Even better if they're books you enjoy. If they read classic books, that's great, but I know if I had tried to read something like Pride and Prejudice or Grapes of Wrath when I was 12 or 13, I wouldn't have liked it. (In fact, I still can't get into P&P)
Oh, and has anybody seen those new editions of Romeo & Juliet and Wuthering Heights? They're trying to make them look more modern so they'll appeal to teenagers. The Wuthering Heights cover said "Edward and Bella's Favorite Book!" or something like that, which is just dumb.
