I really love this movie, but the book/novel is so much scarier. Especially with my imagination!
It doesn't scare you this movie ?

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?
IT absolutely terrified me as a child. It only stopped being scary after I realized Tim Curry was playing the clown. I watched it again after that and laughed the whole way through! "Silly Tim Curry!"
...unfortunately It was replaced with The Grudge... when they were doing the tribute to horror movies at the Oscars a little bit ago I had to cover my face during the entire thing because I knew they were gonna flash a clip of that movie. My mom took myself and my younger sister to see it in theaters and for a month (no joke) afterwards my little sister had my mom sleep with her in her room. I got over it pretty quick, but the thing that scared me the most wasn't the creepy little girl, it was that horrible noise she made!
I'm a pretty big horror movie fan, I love Saw and Hostel and all the gorey movies, but the once with quite, creepy things making weird noises don't sit well with me. I didn't think The Ring was scary at all though...

I can make the scary Grudge noise. I joke with my boyfriend that someday I'm going to call up my friends and make that sound when they answer, just to see what they'll do. I can be so mean.

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?
This isn't a movie and is a really strange thing to be scared of, but when I was little I was terrified of the song "Purple People Eater." I really thought he was going to eat me, and for some ridiculous reason I have a horrible fear of being eaten.
The Purple People Eater Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky It had the one long horn, one big eye I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee" It looks like a purple eater to me
It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater (One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater) A one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater Sure looks strange to me...
That reminds me of a Futurama quote (as most things do). If you're not a follower of the show it might not make sense, but I thought I'd share it nonetheless.
Fry, the main character, is asking his boss if he's ever heard of a hole in space with monsters in it. His boss replies, "Son, there are only three real monsters: Dracula, Blacula, and Son of Kong.

This is one of the first horror movies I saw, it terrified me as well!
I got nightmares from The Good Son, strangely enough. For the most part, I was pretty unperturbed by horror movies: my brother and I were obsessed with them, and rented almost all the horror flicks the local video rental had. Strangely enough, I have a difficult time watching them now.
I remember being afraid of the Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer movies as a teenager. I guess I was egocentric enough to believe that it someone was sitting around, thinking about how they'd like to kill me and all my friends.

In general, pretty much any movie with puppets or clowns freaked me out as a kid.
Ever see Killer Klowns from Outer Space?

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?
You all of such children. Hostel and Saw are not scarey, they are shocking. I remember seeing a movie called Blood Rust when I was a kid and it freaked me out. I must have only been six of seven at the time but I remember it to this day. That was back in the time when you only saw a movie once and it was gone unless it made it to tv or re-release. I know, my kids don't believe me about that either.
BTW, the movie is also called: Space Master X-7 (1958) More at IMDbPro »
BBTW, I don't remember the S&M part, but at six, I probably wouldn't have known what was going on anyway.

First of all, I assume you meant are such children.
Second, this sentiment is unnecessary and innapropriate. No one else here has laughed at or looked down upon what does or does not scare people, and it is incredibly rude for you to assume that you can just because you are older. Everyone is scared of something different, so just because it didn't scare you and you only consider it to be "shocking," doesn't mean that it doesn't legitimately scare someone else who would not be too keen on being called a "child" because of a fear of something he or she cannot help.
I might also remind you that the title of this thread is "what movie scared you when you were a kid," so their honest responses don't necessarily reflect how they feel now, and even if they do, who the hell are you to judge what makes something scary enough to scare adults without them being considered "children?"
(Pardon the harsh language, but I feel your insulting tone deserves the same in response.)

I did mean, "all such children" and ease up a bit. Stop being so sensitive, it was intended to be humorous, emphasizing how much things have changed since I was a kid.

Re: What movie scared you when you were a kid?
Yes, "Saw" is mostly after the "shock effect." It's not really a movie that'll make your paranoid for the rest of the night. The term, I believe, is "torture porn." I'm not a big fan of that term, but I do love the Saw movies. The last one actually made a sort-of statement about insurance companies.
