I don't know if this is even possilbe, much less plausible, but it would be great if we had some kind of index. I just re-posted Dawkins on theology; I know it's already here... somewhere...
Postmodernism seems to be rearing its ugly head again, with the usual misaprehension about the meaning of "proof". I remember a long and fruitful discussion, I think we settled on SJ Gould's working definition of proof; but darn me if I can find it again. Science is neither a philosophy nor a belief system. It is a combination of mental operations that has become increasingly the habit of educated peoples, a culture of illuminations hit upon by a fortunate turn of history that yielded the most effective way of learning about the real world ever conceived. An index to the subjects we discuss? If thats what you mean I can't see a way to create it without a great deal of work. But it sure would be nice to know how to get to various subjects.

I was thinking, it could be an option for the person doing the posting. Button, "Index Under..."
There'd probably have to be pre-set categories or else there would soon be too many. Or maybe not categories at all: just alphabetical listing of "index unders".
Or simpler yet; alphabetical listing of Subjects: except that like most posters, we're careless about subject line (keep using the same one even when no longer appropriate). But maybe that would change if people knwe they were being used for something.
Anyway if we ever go ahead with the idea I volunteer to help if needed. Thanks for considering it anyway! |

Maybe we just need to ask ezBoard people to include a search thru all forums. Right now you can only search one forum at the time and it is a real pain if you are not sure in which forum given discussion took place.

I don't see EZBoard adding such a feature anytime soon. I check out the administrator forums to see what is in the works, and I don't think that is coming.

I am considering switching from EZBoard to vBulletin. They offer indexing as a feature and their boards are MUCH more sophisticated and user-friendly. You can run searches for keywords/subjects. The most important thing is to make sure that all of our posts on this EZBoard would be transferable to the new message board. I am not willing to lose everything we currently have.

| I like the idea of an index. I too have wanted to find a post on a topic and gave up trying to find it. Chris, please keep us posted on your plans... |

Tara
Here is some good news. I have hired the very best EZBoard designer out there to totally redesign our boards. I think within a few short weeks this board will be impressive as hell. I'll keep ya posted.
