Movies for BookTalk?

Just who do I think I am offering so many suggestions to a board I joined last week? Well, I might be pushing the envelope, but...

Even though this is BookTalk, I think it could really be cool if we occassionaly voted on a movie to watch and then discuss it. Perhaps it could be a movie based on a book. There are a lot of movies that could make for interesting conversation within the general parameters of BookTalk. One movie that could be very interesting is the unusual film "My Dinner With Andre." It's very philisophical and could spark some good thoughts.

Maybe a once a month "MovieTalk" could be incorporated somewhere down the road. Maybe I could just keep my mouth shut, too.

Please don't ever feel like a suggestion is out of place. I really appreciate feedback and suggestions of all sorts, and this one happens to be an excellent idea. I'll give it some thought on how to incorporate it into our site.

As we grow, and especially after the new site launches some time after the first of the year, we will have many more members. Adding a "MovieTalk" to the community would be an excellent idea. I'm afraid that right now it wouldn't get enough activity, and as a result we would have a dead forum sitting on the board.

The problem with slow or inactive forums is that visitors see them. They look at the number of posts, views, and the last date a contribution was made. I am doing my best to keep the boards consolidated enough that no board appears slow or inactive in relation to the others.

So we will eventually have a "MovieTalk" forum. But for the next two months it will have to sit on the back burner while I work on the creation of the main site and advertising our group to the world. Thank you for the idea and please keep them coming!

Chris, Although it's on the back burner, here's some other movie suggestions: Contact The Last Temptation of Christ Apocalypse Now The Spanish Prisoner The Mosquito Coast Dune Monty Python's Life of Brian They all are in keeping with the parameters of the interests of this forum, in my humble opinion! (I'm serious about Life of Brian BTW <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> )

"Contact" is one of the most incredible movies I've ever seen in my life. You have good taste Johnny.

We will definitely be doing the MovieTalk idea. The new site is soon to be complete, so expect a flood of new members and some great movie discussions. I'll probably link to the forum off the Home page too.

Brad,

Somehow I missed this thread when you originally posted it. I think this is a great idea! As soon as I get a VCR I'm in. If something good comes out at the theatre between now and then we could watch it and then start a thread in the Roundtable forum about it.

I think there is a lot to be gained from discussing other parts of our culture, including movies. I would point out that my comments on "Brotherhood of the Wolf", which struck me as relevant to "The Lucifer Principle", got no views and no replys.

That's frustrating. I specifically remember viewing that thread because I had never heard of the movie before but after you mentioned it I thought I might rent it when I get a VCR. Sometimes threads do not show up as being viewed when they have been. That's happened a number of times on various threads. I didn't reply. I didn't have anything to say really. I just thought it sounded interesting.

I know for a fact there is something wrong with the "views" counter. They discuss this bug in the EZBoard help system. It annoys me terribly. For months I have been frustrated that nobody reads what I post in the "News" forum. Now I realize that even thread I have gone back and edited many times show no new views.

Life of Brian is one of my all time favorite movies. I think it is well worth serious discussion. I just bought a copy at Wallmart for like $6.00 or so, so keep eyes open there.

Another classic which I take seriously, and other people don't, is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I honestly think it is one of the most profound films I've every seen.

If we could find Fellini's Satyricon, I think that would be a terrific film for discussion.

This "MovieTalk" idea is soon going to be a reality. I think many members would enjoy this light-hearted forum created simply for socializing and casually discussing good movies. My goal is to have it up and running by August 2003.

Instead of creating forum in August I will be concentrating on creating a calendar page and a few other upgrades. When we hit 100 members I'll create this forum. I don't want any forums on our community that visitors consider inactive or dead. It hurts the whole place. So when we grow a little more we'll incorporate MovieTalk into the plan.
