Hello everybody!,
I am Vishwas from the western part of India.
I got a link to your board thru.
www.infidels.org/index.html
I am 46 years old male.

I read mostly non fiction.
Some of my favourite authors include: Issac Asimov,Carl Sagan, Martin Gardner, Richard Dawkins,(books by & about) Richard Feynman, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
I also enjoy reading about the history of all the subjects that I am interested in.

How I got introduced to some of the topics related to your group ?
Skepticism:
An article by Martin Gardner (published some time in early 80s, in Scientific American.)
Humanism:
A reference to the 'Humanist declaration' in Asimov's biography.

I am new to the world of mailing lists posting, chat rooms,
journals/blogs etc. Please let me know whenever I straying away from netiquettes.
I had written a very lengthy self introduction but realising my mistake in time I have shortened it considerably. I hope this is short enough.

Welcome!

Asimov is one of my favorites as well.

Mr. P.

The one thing of which I am positive is that there is much of which to be negative - Mr. P.

The pain in hell has two sides. The kind you can touch with your hand; the kind you can feel in your heart...Scorsese's "Mean Streets"

I have read a few non-fiction by Asimov...Beginnings was a nice read. I have a few others I have bought over the years but have not read them as of yet...I have been mostly reading his sci-fi, and a few years ago I decided to check out his other work. I love his Azazel stories, and just picked up a collection of the "Black Widower" series. I do want to check out his works on the bible...see what the old man had to say!

I have the book "ATOM" I want to read, but with the booktalk selections, my non-fiction has been pretty much dictated to me, as I feel an obligation to read those books first and make the community suceed.

I hope you will join me in that sentiment and I hope to see you in active in the coming discussions!

Vishwas

Welcome to the BookTalk community, Vishwas. I think you're our first member from India, but I'll have to check the BookTalk GuestMap to know for certain. :)

Your choice in books and authors shows me that you're going to love BookTalk. ::80 Check out our Books page to see what we've read in the past and what we're reading right now. I haven't updated that page yet to reflect the two books that won our 3rd Quarter 2006 book polls, but that should be done later today.

I've read several Asimov books, but only the nonfiction. I'm not too into science fiction books, and that seems to be his specialty. Although we will be reading "Enders Game" in 3rd quarter this year! That book is rated so highly that I'm pretty excited about reading and discussing it. I hope you read along with us.

There really is no big secret to how to participate on message boards. Just be a nice person and treat your fellow members as if they are sitting in the same room with you, having a civil conversation over a cup of coffee. ::44 It is only when people start to forget that we're real people behind the text that we run into troubles. So use common sense and you'll be fine.

Long introductions are perfectly acceptable and actually quite desirable. This is YOUR thread and you can say anything you want in it. Use it like a journal if you like. People will read your posts more often than actually respond, so don't get discouraged. Your words are being seen.

Welcome to BookTalk!

Chris

I went thru the Guest Map ( and also browsed the member introductions and journals) and found that I am 5th from India. If I can make some guesses by looking at the user names then there are atleast 4 more members who seem to be of Indian origin but now in US.
But almost all of them ( just like many other memebers here ? ) have not participated very actively after the inital euphoria.

Anyway I enjoined going thru the GuestMap.

I do intend to contiune, but I have a few problems.
1. I am likely to be very busy for the next 3 months,
( 2 months due work pressure, 1 month due to the soccer world cup! ) .
2. I am not having access to a good library here so I need to purchase the books that are being currently read. But I am unable to get these books.
3. I wish to try the chat room (at least the Thursday sessions), but I found out that I am at my place of work at that time.
