Howdy, folks.
Hey... Nice place.
I came across this forum from the NoBeliefs.com website. My interest in the Freethinking community started some time after the events of 9/11. Our official response, the distorted discourse in the media, the messages being propagated by our "religious leaders" and politicians, and the question of "religious wars" caused me to rethink and re-examine, well, just about everything about religion, politics, and the nature of my world in general. And I've come to the conclusion that, something ain't right . I hate that feeling of knowing that something is wrong but not having enough knowledge to see it clearly, or be able to explain it. .
So my search for answers has led me to various Freethinkingg websites, watching C-SPAN (I especially like Book-Tv), signing onto discussion forums, and viola' ... Here I am.

Hi GDR, I am a veteran of 24 hours on Book Talk. I think you are wise to re-examine everything, starting all over every day! Sounds like, by "something is wrong," you mean that state, national, international, and religious leaders are feeding clichιs to the media for mass consumption, but operating on completely different motives and participating in different activities behind the scenes? I bet you're right!
I am sceptical of the usefulness of CSPAN. I don't think anything real or meaningful will ever occur in front of a camera (IMO). But books and forums, and forums on books, that's where the light is shining... Hope you find what you're looking for, and Welcome!

Howdy, rosecoutre. And welcome yourself. I think watching BookTV on CSPAN2 played a major role in my being here at a forum on books. So it has to have some usefullness. I've seen some great interviews with people I'd never heard of before. Helen Caldicott being the most recent. I thought she was great.
But I know I'm going to get a lot out of this forum. Edited by: GOD defiles Reason at: 8/27/05 5:22 pm
