|

With free market religion in the US, increase in intelligence(Flynn effect) and increase in knowledge are countered by increase in the varieties of religion to fit every brain type. If you don't like this version of Christianity, go down the street. It's similar to fast food. Shermer said 96% of Americans belief in God, a figure held steady by free market religion even with increased knowledge.
The reason of this post was to find discussion on how the concept above interacts with the concept below. Smart yet still religious VS acceptance of more animalistic morals.
"I kissed a girl and I liked it" is the song that catalyzed this though. Throughout the whole song, the singer uses clever phrasing and such to justify why it's an act that shouldn't be frowned upon so much. Such media trends come in various shapes and sizes, pushing the envelope on what is acceptable.
Religion is of course false, so pushing the envelope seems to be little more than shedding dogmatic policies and just being what we've evolved to be. We've progressed in that direction more than most people think, and we still have less crime than ever, so keep that argument in the closet.

I agree with the above statement… many of our laws are simply extensions of religious dogma and by extension many people in our prison system are simply victims of that dogma.
Prostitution laws and other sex laws cause many people to spend time in prison for what should be a private matter.
In the past abortion laws caused the imprisonment of doctors and the death of countless young women over what should also be a private personal choice.
Currently the religious have upheld laws to keep same sex marriages from becoming legal.
The list goes on…
We as a society have grown past many of the dogmatic rules of Christianity but there is still a long way to go.
Furthermore if we allow the church to gain too much support we will see a backward trend in this advancement.
Take the current debate about teaching creationism in science class.
Even in this day and age the church was nearly successful in its attempt to cloud the sciences with church dogma. It was successful for a time in some states (which in my mind is a terrible violation of both the education system and the separation of church and state)
In order to be a truly free society we need to get out from under the dogma of Christianity…

I am pretty sure that Interbane meant that many of the tenants of Christianity are demonstrably false.
