Suggestions for our next FICTION book discussion

We'll be reading and discussing "Orlando," by Virginia Woolf in October and November of 2008, and "The Things They Carried," by Tim O'Brien in November and December of 2008. This thread here is for suggesting books for our next fiction discussion, which will probably take place in December and January.

Suggest books and tell us a little about them. Most importantly, if you see someone else suggest a book that you would enjoy reading and discussing let us know. A suggestion that gets no additional comments ends up being ignored as it is assumed to not be interesting to the rest of the community. So speak up and share your thoughts on both the good and bad suggestions you see in this thread. Smile

I am starting to look at classic books that I haven't read. This one has really caught my eye.

I think this is one of the classics that everybody. There is something innocent and yet so much magical in this book. I haven't read it but I look forward to experiencing it will all of you. But that is my opinion.

The Secret Garden is another good option. It's kids lit, but its got so many layers in it [I used it in an essay last semester], and I've been going through previous books - it might be interesting to read something from Children's Literature [although I know the secret garden so well].

Oh! We should read The Secret Garden! Or re-read it, actually, for many people. It wouldn't take long and we could get into all kinds of context and depth.

Yeah, I'm up for it! I think I still have my notes on it from my essay that I might be able to inject into the discussion! I read some really interesting articles on it and aspects of it.

I added "Lolita" to the fiction selections because we had gotten behind on fiction books and the top book section looked barren. Several people were already discussing Lolita in the Additional Book Discussion forums so all I did is make that additional discussion a main discussion. If anyone would like to join in on that conversation please do so. There is a new forum for that book and the discussion period is October and November 2008.

This thread still remains as the place for making suggestions about our next fiction book or books. So speak your mind! Smile

I have Lolita here but hadn't yet started it. I'm going to get started on it tonight and head over to the discussion board. It's nice to have other people to talk to about books when so many people don't read!

As for the secret garden, great book. One of the most magical things I have ever read Very Happy
