Hi,
I'm shyly trying to join this group but have to say I've only joined one other message board, so I'm gonna be pretty amateurish in my initial attempts.
Well, given that, I'm definitely a book lover as well as a fan of ideas, free-thinking and deep thinking. I met Chris at an atheist's meetup the other night and was quite impressed, so naturally I wanted to check this out.
I'll probably take the suggestion to add a bit about myself as I feel this process out. For now, I can say that I'm an engineer by trade and a fan of literature and philosophy by nature. Actually, I have lots of interests, such that I can't keep up with all my 'hobbies', quests, and research projects even when fully retired! (I am partially retired now...I work contract efforts when I feel like it/get greedy.) When I'm not working, I am often traveling overseas because that is a major interest of mine. I've been to so many interesting places and plan to keep on exploring. And for the last few months I've been heavily involved in the campaign for Howard Dean for president in 2004.
Well, guess that's about all for now, intro-wise. The book I'm most 'pushing' these days is by Joan Didion, called Fixed Ideas: America since 9.11 |

Hi Bobbi,
Welcome to booktalk. It's nice to see another book lover joining the club.
It must be cool being able to travel a lot. I hope I can get to a point in my life when I can go visit other countries and places.
