Have any of you heard of or belong to "Second Life" (SL). It is a pretty wonderful place. I am set up there now with my own land and house. I am currently working on starting a business there.
It is a very fascinating place. People are making real money living and working there. I am talking full time jobs. But mostly, it is a place to meet people and have fun. It is like a chat forum with avatars.
This got me thinking about having booktalk on there. We could have virtual discussions in SL at my house...or at Booktalk headquarters! Just a thought.
You need to have a decent computer with an above average graphics card, so that could be an issue...but I would think that if Booktalk were on there, it may draw in some members here in Real Life (RL).

This is where I have been. I have been lately...building my home and creating objects for sale. I plan to be one of the top fashion designers in SL one day...and hopfully make some RL $$.

Thank you Mr.P. I did try to join and became an accepted member but then my computer couldn't cope with it....so I have loads of it on my system but can't use it.
Still it does all sound entertaining and fun.......which is what life's about.

My brother has been pushing me to do something in Second Life for years and years. And the idea is quite intriguing to me. My problem has always been the learning curve for doing anything meaningful in Second Life is pretty big. But the potential is there for sure.
You mentioned a few companies that have land and buildings in Second Life. It is far more than just those few. Major Universities and Fortune 500 companies own islands and stores and schools in the world of Second Life.
Look up my brother when in game. He goes by Persephone Milk. He is very well known so be understanding if he doesn't have time to talk to you at that moment, but if you mention BookTalk and me you will obviously get his attention. If you want to be a designer in Second Life he would have valuable information on how to go about setting up a shop. But the type of clothing I have a feeling you would produce would be in direct competition to the products of "Stroker," the number #1 designer of adult toys and clothing in game. Stroker is good friends with my brother in Second Life and recently in real life. Figure out a way around that situation and my brother could be a good resource for you. He owns his own island and it is an amazingly beautiful place. |

I will look him up! I have not run into Stoker at all yet. All good. Competition is what drives business. I am sure he has nothing to worry about fdrom me...I am still learning, but I learn quick as a few have told me already. I am only there 3 weeks and I have designed some clothes, built my house and some other items. I am going to tackle the LSL scripting language next.
Cool place though. And I know there are more than I mentioned...but I was just naming a few. The possibilities are endless on SL.

Oh Mr P......Virtual Reality....possibilities are endless!!!!
Possibilities are endless here in the real world too!!
The bloody buggering buggers keep getting in our way here though.
Have good time.......tell us about what happens.
I am coming to the conclusion that it is all 'Virtual Reality'. With a nod to Einstein's theory of relativity, which really showed that there is no such thing as 'time'.
What if SL is just a reflection of what we call reality. And what if what we call reality...is just a reflection of the real thing.......
I have a theory that if we could get rid of the competitive spirit....the ego...we might begin to have just an inkling of what it is all about. Sad that SL seems to be the competitive spirit just repeating itself. Or, am I wrong...come on, tell me.

It would be so wild if you could create a player in the game that is just like you in every way. Then you could live on in perpetuity. You could even program yourself to respond to all kinds of questions so that your great great great grandchildren that use the game can visit you and ask you questions about yourself, long after you're dead! Immortality... kind of  |

I know...my computer is BARELY good enough to work this! SOmetimes I just freeze up. Now I am contemplating actually buying a new PC. I have only bought 1 PC in my life, the rest I have and still own being put together from computers that others throw away (many people toss perfectly good computers!!). Unfortunately, no one who buys expensive Video cards seems to toss them! |

My two sons are always adding on bits to their computers.....I am all in favour of recycling......but I dunno what video cards are Mr. P. Are they like motherboards? 'Cos I dunno what they are either.

The mother board is like the skeleton of the computer...all the other bits attach to it. The audio, video, processor (brain), RAM (memory) are all either chips or 'cards' that are inserted into slots on the motherboard. Each card has a certain power or capability. Different cards can be more or less powerful than the next.
The video card runs everything you see on the screen. Better cards are necessary for graphic intense gaming and other applications.
