hi,
i am 33, i live in France and found that forum while looking for more information about the book "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, that I finished reading a week ago.
I am now reading "Love in the time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Well, I love reading and i try to read as much as possible, which is not much compared to most of you i suppose.
I used to have an American friend who was an English teacher and read a lot and knew how to talk about books. Unfortunately, I am not in touch with that friend anymore so I am looking for people who love reading and can give interesting critics about the last book they read.
So i hope this forum is what i was looking for.
Some of the books i have read during the past few months are:
"The road" by Cormac McCarthy, "A thousand splendid suns" by Khaled Hosseini, "No country for old men", "Suite française" by Irene Nemirovsky, "Extremely loud and incredibly close" ... |

Welcome Celinio!
You found the right place! There are many fellow readers that are here for the same reasons you are.
Ophelia is also French so you two might be able to share opinions on books that English speaking readers can't read. (no translation available)
Some of the books you mention are being discussed right now |

Special congratulations, Celinio, for joining Booktalk , the place for the best and the brightest readers...
It is one of my deep beliefs that there must be hundreds of readers in Europe who are just waiting to discover us.
I have never heard your first name before-- sorry if my question sounds silly, is it the masculine form of "Céline"? Perhaps of Italian origin?
I absolutely loved The Kite Runner.
As for No Country for Old Men, I'd really love to have your opinion.
It is our current fiction discussion. It started well at first and then the discussion stalled for a while-- we were just waiting for you to set things going again! Just look at the threads for this book in the fiction forum, post wherever you like, and I'll get back to you. |

thanks President Camacho and Ophelia for your warm welcome.
My name is of Portuguese origin.
And i guess you could say it is the masculine of Celine.
I am checking the sections of the forum now and hopefully i can contribute.
PS:
Ophelia, where in France are you ? |

For those curious like me:
The city of Tours has a population of 140,000 and is called "Le Jardin de la France" ("The Garden of France"). There are several parks located within the city. Tours is located between two rivers, the Loire to the north and the Cher to the south. The buildings of Tours are white with blue slate (called Ardoise) roofs; this style is common in the north of France, as most buildings in the south of France have terra cotta roofs.
Tours is famous for its original medieval district, called le Vieux Tours. Unique to the Old City are its preserved half-timbered buildings and la Place Plumereau, a square with busy pubs and restaurants, whose open-air tables fill the center of the square. Boulevard Beranger crosses Rue Nationale at Place Jean-Jaures and is the location of weekly markets and fairs.
Near the cathedral, in the garden of the ancient Palais des Archevêques (now Musée des Beaux-Arts), is a huge cedar tree planted by Napoleon.
Tours is home to François Rabelais University, the site of one of the most important choral competitions, called Florilège Vocal de Tours International Choir Competition, and is a member city of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing.
