My name is Jen and I am 24. I have just recently started getting into reading. I have just read Brave New World, Anthem, Waiting for the Barbarians, Beloved and The Handmaid's Tale. Waiting for the Barbarians is my least favorite so far, although it is a well written novel it is very hard to get into at first and I don't quite understand meaning behind the ending. Such as if magistrate has come to any new understanding of human nature? Of his own identity? Of "the Empire"?
The Handmaid's Tale has been my favorite so far. I love the use of language Atwood uses in the novel. What do you think that she is trying to tell us about the power of language to impact our sense of self and our relationship with the world around us?
