| I used to read print only, but recently I've discovered audio books and for some fiction titles I enjoy this. Unfortunately it's expensive! |

I cannot listen to audio books. They just annoy me and I hate especially when the reader tries to add flair and accents on characters!
Paper books are the only books I read. I am a traditionalist I guess. I would probably use a digital book though...like Kindle or similar. I just feel that the act of actually reading makes the whole experience more fulfilling. |

I'm with you Mr. Pessimistic, I cannot stand audio books.
I've tried to listen to audio books, especially on the way from school to my home (a three hour drive), I just cannot sit there and listen to someone read me a book.
Plus nothing beats a paperback |

I am definitely a paperback girl. I cannot sit and read books on the computer - I stare at a computer screen all day and I can't do it to read books too. My attention wanders too much with audio books. Hardbacks are so expensive and I can't slide one in my purse when I am on the go like I can a paperback |

I really enjoy audio books, mainly while driving (45 minute commute each way). But not every book works for this, it needs a little suspense or mystery to hold your attention. Non-fiction can work if you are strongly interested in the topic. There are enough distractions while driving that your mind will wander if the audio book doesn't hold your attention.
Most of the readers are actors and I enjoy the voices/accents they add, especially if there are a wide variety of characters. The voices are better than my imagination, perhaps those who don't like this have better imaginations than mine.
Many audio books are abridged, I avoid them if at all possible. I find the abridged more difficult to understand because they leave out "non-essential" stuff. Although I have listened to a few books that I wish HAD been abridged...
None of this takes away from a paperback, it just means you can read several more books per month! |

I just realized this poll has made it to the front page. I'm surprised something I contributed got this far so soon after my subscription.
Thanks, everybody. |
