The Woman Warrior

I am currently reading "The Woman Warrior" by Maxine Hong Kingston, and I'm finding it incredibly confusing. I think that the confusing nature of the narration is perhaps an attempt to bring readers into the confusing mental state that the narrator is experiencing in her attempt to understand the meanings of her family's stories. Although this is a clever strategy, I feel that it takes away from the stories themselves, and perhaps, the point. Anyone agree/disagree?

Hello daffodileyes,

I haven't read The Woman Warrior but I have had a look at some reviews at amazon.

The theme appeals to me, I have read other fiction books with the theme of a daughter of Chinese parents who have emigrated to the US, the most famous writer being Amy Tan I think.

And by the way, why is it always daughters in these novels?
Do the men adapt easily, or just don't write about their experience?
