Re: Nietzsche's, The Gay Science: Book 5 We Fearless Ones
So, counting Mad and Niall out, the discussion would cover at most fifty pages of reading. I think Nietzsche's utilization of aphorisms will make for a much easier exploration of ideas and themes. Each aphorism is opened with a title and a number, like
374. Our New "Infinite" above; and Nietzsche works to encapsulate an insightful provocation and convincing exploration of that title- keeping it generally brief and consistently interesting...and occasionally unsettling, even disturbing. In any case, the format will lend itself to a thread discussion such as this. And it wont require hours of reading.
I think Book 5 will be worthwhile in discussing (even though it was written in 1886) in that I think it is suprisingly so contemporary. It will challenge Theists, Christians, Logical Positivists, Artists, Atheists, and Natural Scientists to consider the motivations beneath, between, and behind their worldviews...as well as perhaps how much they all still have in common.
I also think it simply a delight to read.
