Please take the poll and then use this thread to discuss the chat with guest A.C. Grayling. In my opinion this chat was a complete success. If you're one of the people wanting something more formal - that just isn't what we're all about. We can all read interviews, but where else can readers directly interact with authors?
And besides, ezboard doesn't allow any additional moderation abilities. There is no way to silence the entire room while I conduct an interview. And would you really want that? Seriously? You would want to sit and watch ME talk to the authors?
It seems at the end of each author chat we have these sort of comments. I do understand that our chats can get a bit chaotic, but we need to do some self-moderation. Perhaps some ground rules would be nice, but I've no interest in silencing you guys. BookTalk is special because we offer what nobody else offers.

I voted! I'm not nobody! I thought that the chat went very well. I also agree with Chris' comments on author chats. I would not like to see us go to a format where we watch Chris interview authors. I also feel that we should be able to monitor ourselves in these chats so that things don't get too chaotic.

This thread isn't getting much activity and now it is time to move the Grayling forum back to the archives. I'm pretty confident the chat session was a great success. We're simply seeing a lack of activity in this forum since the book was read and discussed about 9 months ago. Our author chat happened a bit late.

Anthony emailed me the following message:
Quote:Dear Chris
I enjoyed the chat session greatly - a new experience for me, and a very pleasant one. The hour flashed by. I admired your efforts to keep the discussion on some sort of straight track; but I see that the value of these things is that they shoot off in all directions, in a most interesting and entertaining way. Thank you very much for inviting me! Warm good wishes.

I didn't attend the chat session (I only encountered this forum today!) but I have certainly enjoyed reading that transcription. Very exciting & insightful. And how friendly all round! I also like how people stayed to further discussion after Anthony left. Cheers. I voted 'good' for these reasons, though I don't suppose I can comment
