When was the last time you went to the library? And why did you go and what books did you check out?

A few weeks ago I went to the new downtown Clearwater library with a friend. He had been in England for the past year and had not seen this new library and wanted to go check it out. I forget why, but for some reason they were closed. It's a great library though and you can see the intercoastal waterway from the west side of the building, which is entirely glass.

I may go today...but last time was last week. I checked out "Team of Rivals" and "The Luck Factor". I am reading "Team" but will return "Luck" after reading the first chapter...not what I thought.

Sometimes I forget libraries exist. Whenever I happen to visit one I am in awe at what a tremendous FREE asset they are to people.

We are trying to get a new library built in my town. It is costly, but worth it IMO.

I think I went a month or two ago to get Blink. I have always made use of public libraries. I used to do almost all of my reading out of library books. Now, I use the library mainly for fiction books, books from an author I haven't read before, or books that I don't think I will want to refer to later. Blink was by an author that I had not read before. I probably will purchase that book as a reference, since it had some interesting information.

I'm there right now. I'm at the public library right now, but I also use a university library about once a week. The public library I use mostly for internet access. I find that having internet at home is too big a distraction -- if I had a connection in my apartment you guys would probably never be able to wade through all my posts. The university library is where I check out most of my books. Last time I was there was Monday, and I checked out "Value and Virtue in a Godless World", which isn't exactly the sort of book I'd buy for myself. Sorry guys.

Heh, wait until you see my posts about the book before you jump to any conclusions. The subject matter isn't what makes it the sort of book I wouldn't buy.

most people forget. when i lived in northeastern MA, we had a HUGE inter connect library system from which you could obtain nearly any book in print with exception of some obscure stuff, and even that you could probably request. i made extreme use of that library system renting at least one book a week. since i moved up to VT, i realized how special a library system that huge is. not many libraries up here and they are really small. sadly, i have yet to even get a library card because the collection is so small and i find it just as effective to buy books online and then re-sell them, usually only costing me a net of 10% of the list price. not bad for the convenience and ability to get any in print book. but if i had that library system up here, you can bet i would still be saving a fortune.
it jsut always amazed me how busy places like borders and B&N were but the library was never ever busy except for teh internet area. |

I LOVE libraries, and the old the building the better. I am there at minimum once a week, and usually check out two books at a time; get into a bit of a panic if I am nearing the end of one book and don't have another ready to pick up. Last book I checked out was MaGuire's Mirror, Mirror; he wrote Wicked, which was made into the Broadway production, and which I have not yet read. The idea of rewriting Fairy Tales for adults is just a hoot as far as I am concerned, and I had to check him out.
