I guess you're right Taylor. I'm not so sure about the often self admitted easy target part. But yeah it was a joke I probably should have refrained from.

Incidentally the thing about atheist churches is not to suggest that all atheists go to churches.


It's a point of view that scientists are the secular priesthood with celebrity Bishops etc.

That would be Berlinski's view. He's an agnostic but very critical of the fundamentalist new atheist stance claiming scientific justification.

It was interesting to me in looking at the global warming issue to learn how many skeptical scientists were kicked out of their jobs because of their skepticism.

The scientific establishment is intolerant of even other scientists who don't hold to the prevailing 'orthodoxy'.

Not on all issues but those deemed somewhat sacrosanct.

What this is is an inability to admit that the brand of atheism Roy and a few others here identify strongly with is very much a religion.

There's no way around it; you either deny the very existence of evangelical religious atheism with absurd questions like "Who are these atheists you claim exist?" or commit the No True Scotsman fallacy by claiming they aren't Atheists, or "this is not Atheism".
