Flowers for Algernon; short story

Unread post

Maybe you have read the novel, maybe you have watched the movie, but either way, you fell in love with Algernon. It all started with a short story.

Read it here:

"Flowers for Algernon"

It was one of three short stories I read in the 8th Grade that made me want to become a writer. I loved it.

I read the short story as a young adult. I can still remember one line easily...
"God, I hate that mouse." -Charley Gordon
Love what you do, and do what you love. Don't listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. -Ray Bradbury

Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it. -Robert A. Heinlein

I had a much easier time sympathizing with Charley in the short stoy; all the phycho-sexual/political stuff in the novel just bogged the story down and made the intelligent Charley come off as a jerk.
