Hello everyone,

My name is Mambo Banda but my pen name is Mambo Banda II. I am a new writer and I look forward to getting to know all of you.
I am from Zambia and I currently reside there. Professionally I am in the IT industry, in my spare time I enjoy writing and creating worlds. My favorite genres to read are Thrillers, Sci-Fi, fantasy and biographies.

Cheers,

Mambo

Nice to meet you, Mambo. :-)

Welcome to the BookTalk.org community. What do you mean by "creating worlds"?

By "creating worlds" I mean making background worlds, universes, cities etc for the characters and stories in my books. It's a creative and research process I enjoy and I try to come up with something new and unique each time.

Ah, that makes sense.

I read somewhere that J. R. R. Tolkien spent an immense amount of time and effort in developing the background world of Middle-earth. I can see how rewarding this would be for authors so I can see why you have a passion for the endeavor.

Here is one article on how Tolkien created his world. http://www.johngarth.co.uk/php/tolkien_ ... andard.php

Thanks for sharing the article, it’s very inspiring. In school I had the pleasure of reading ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ and I’ve been a fan of that universe ever since.

It’s interesting how Tolkien used his experiences to craft his fantasy worlds. When I first read the books I didn’t know anything about Tolkien and his life, but later on when I knew the origins of his stories I found his creative process intriguing.

Hi, Mambo, and welcome to Book Talk. I don't think we have too many members here from Africa, so it is a pleasure to meet you. I like Science Fiction, (some) Fantasy, Mysteries, Historical Fiction and almost any genre except romance.

Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it. -Robert A. Heinlein

Hi Cattleman, its also nice to meet you. Thanks. I also like sciences fiction and Mysteries. I haven't read many Historical Fiction books, but the best I've read so far is "Cloud of Sparrows" By Takashi Matsuoka, interesting book. Its got western and Japanese themes, which I enjoyed.
