As the author of “The True Virus”, I would like to comment on a partial quote from a recent review of my thriller novel by George Esler. Here is the remark I’m referring to:
[some of the minor characters who served no real purpose maybe got a little too much "screen time,"]
I think he is referring to the Palestinian family living in Gaza and the Israeli solider who invaded Gaza during the last Israeli/Gaza war. The only reason I created these subplots was to try and give the reader a glimpse of the way individuals from both sides felt about the other. This was my attempt at trying to be neutral with a novel about a very controversial topic. I did try to create a tie with the Palestinian character in Gaza as being a relative of one of the more important characters in the book.
Note: I know that George Esler is a member of BookTalk, so if he reads this, I’d like to know if those characters I mentioned are the ones he refers to as minor characters. If so, does he understand what I was trying to accomplish? Or, does he still feel it was unnecessary to give them too much “screen time”?

I can’t believe that when I started writing my biotech thriller, “The True Virus”, almost two years ago, it would be so timely today with everything taking place in our world right now. First, the story revolves around the last major Gaza/Israeli war. I was able to show how each side felt about the other through fictional characters during that conflict.
Second, the plot involves a Hamas bioterrorist who hacks into the new DNA component of the CIA’s main computer and plants a program to create an Ebola virus which results in an epidemic in Bethlehem. Therefore, the readers of this novel will be able to relate to the news headlines of today in regards to the recent Gaza/Israeli war and the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
