The Law vs Morality

Unread post

Is there a difference between morality and the laws we follow? If so, why? If not, why not?

Does anyone believe that laws establish morality? Maybe some apologists for fascist regimes or something.

I'd say that laws come from morality, or reflect morality, as much as reasonably achievable. They are, essentially, our moral code.

I think an ideal civilization would have a set of laws that perfectly reflect the moral sentiment of the citizens. When law deviates from this moral center far enough or allows for unjust exemptions, people riot and overthrow.
