| I just found out that according to the Texas Constitution you have to believe in God in order to hold public office in Texas as well as Arkansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee! To me this is OUTRAGEOUS! How the hell do they get away with this?! So much for separation of church and state... |

Thats interesting. I didn't know that individual states had their own constitutions.
Does it say what god you have to believe in? Let us agree, there is no one single reality. Not upon this stage, not in this world, all is in the mind... imagination is the only truth. Because it cannot be contradicted except by other imaginations - Richard Matheson

Sorry I meant to put the passage but I forgot, hehe. Here:
Texas Constitution, Bill of Rights, Article I, Section 4:
"No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this state; nor shall anyone be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being." |

| I wonder what the motivation is behind that passage. Is there an assumption that atheists, agnostics, Buddhists and the like are amoral/immoral? Let us agree, there is no one single reality. Not upon this stage, not in this world, all is in the mind... imagination is the only truth. Because it cannot be contradicted except by other imaginations - Richard Matheson

NiaII,
I guess you are right. I guess that the assumption is that people that do not believe in a Supreme Being are less likely to be obedient. In some form, the atheism leads to a sort of anarchy. And of course, this is dangerous for the government, because they will have dificulty manipulating and ruling those people. The legislators that put that sentence had something of that sort in mind. I think it is not correct to force anybody to believe in anything religious. I would like to replace that sentence to... as long as they believe in diversity and democracy...
