U.S. Hostage Hamill Escapes in Iraq

According to a news report I just read Hamill has escaped his captors in Iraq and been found by US forces. This is such good news, but something seems fishy. I've a feeling he didn't actually escape, but was allowed to walk out or was assisted in his escape by someone somewhere.

From the videos I saw Hamill was being held by some rather rough looking Iraqis. I doubt they would turn their heads allowing Hamill to get out of their sight without it being intentional. We'll see. I'm sure the news will give us all the details over time.

Since those pictures were released where US soldiers brutalized the Iraqi prisoners I have been extremely worried for the American hostages. Those idiots should receive the full punishment available under the law, as they very well could now be responsible for the torture and deaths of many additional lives.

Think about it. The entire Arab world has seen those pictures at this point. When they see how the US treats them in captivity...isn't there a chance they'll take their anger out on the US and other western hostages?

He tells the soldiers that he pried a door open and ran half a mile to the convoy...why would he be lying? Or are you suggesting that they let him run?

The photos of abuses in US prisons in Iraq is unfortunately a matter of suspicions confirmed. It always seemed that Guantanamo was extra-judicial, as was the holding prison in Afghanistan, and there were documented cases of prisoners dying under interrogation there. The west has lost the moral high ground over this. It just confirms doubts in the Arab world that the western rhetoric of 'human rights' and a 'just war' are simply hypocritical.

I guess I'm shocked they could be so incompetent to allow a prisoner to escape so easily. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy as heck for the man and his family, but it seems weird he simply ran away. But I guess its true.
