Gilgamesh

Unread post

:D Just finished reading GILGAMESH by Stephen Mitchell for class. Have to say this was a great read, I really enjoyed reading this book. 8)
:) Gilgamesh seems to be a bad boy until he is sent Enkidu his equal and who turns out to be his best friend and brother. But these two together are unstoppable and when they do something which upsets the GODS they are punished for what they have done. Their punishment is Gilgamesh lose's his best friend and brother, which cause's him to question have people can deal with death. So he goes on a quest to find this out, how to overcome/deal with death. What he finds out is that death is natural, its around, there is nothing no one can do to stop or control this. So live your life, enjoy it, do something new to you, just live your life. :)

I enjoyed the Epic of Gilgamesh. I read it a long time ago but I most remember how the slut, through sex, brought Enkidu into civilization. I think this has something to do with Barbarians/established civilization/and the luxury and pleasantness that it provides. I didn't like how Enkidu died. I also liked how, scared of death, he searches for eternal life and finds that it's impossible. Some other important aspects are 'the great deluge'. I remember so little from the book that I should definitely give it another read. Thanks for sharing!
