 Angel Poski Brief excerpt: Angelique threw the hood up to cover her masked face and crept into the room. A small group of people were gathered, staring at a small table up ahead. They weren’t humming, but chanting in chorus. A girl was lying on the table, unmoving at first. The girl was completely naked except for a white feathered mask. Then she saw him. He was magnificent, all decked out in black. The feathers of his mask encircled his face, giving him a devious look. His cloak flowed behind him like he was some lord of a medieval castle. He commanded a strong presence as he walked into the room, standing over the naked girl. She watched, mesmerized, as his hand came out and stroked the girl’s cheek. That hand, those arms had been strong when he held her a short while ago. She remembered wanting to melt into his embrace, to be his forever. As his hand touched the girl, she seemed to come to life. She cried out and tried to move, but her hands were held in place by another man. She could tell the girl wasn’t comfortable with his touch. What she wouldn’t give to be in the girl’s place right now. He would be gentle, so loving, so…. She saw the knife rising over the girl, light from the candle glinting off its golden hilt, its serrated blade looking wicked. The crowd’s chanting had grown louder as the weapon plunged down into the girl’s breast. The girl screamed. Angelique gasped, reaching up and putting a hand to her chest as if the knife had just buried a hole inside her. She heard the girl give a last gurgle as the blade pierced flesh, cutting through muscle, slicing into her heart.
