 Nailed it! (News organizations grapple with science coverage, report opposite of findings)Reporters don't understand what they are reporting on. Whether it be politics, economics, or in this case science.
They get the barest understanding of what the story might be about and run something on it. This results in grossly misleading stories often coming to conclusions that just skim the truth of what is being reported, or lead the reader to unfounded conclusions. Darwin May Have Been WRONG, New Study Argues. read the headline. The scientific paper the headline speaks of goes on to say nothing of the sort. It was a paper exploring how suddenly vacated ecological niches are an important factor in evolution. They did not play up the "survival of the fittest" aspect of evolution, that isn't what this paper was focusing on, but in the mind of the reporter with a deadline and a boring report on scientific drudgery that meant an opportunity for a scandalizing headline. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-ne ... 96132.html _________________ Have you tried that?
