Forum rules

Please read BEFORE posting in the "Introduce Yourself" forum

This forum is a friendly place for new members to say hello to the BookTalk.org community. We love meeting new members and hope you take a few minutes to tell us a bit about yourself. :)

  • Are you male or female?
  • Where are you from?
  • What are your hobbies or special interests?
  • What sort of books do you enjoy reading?
  • How did you find BookTalk.org?

1. Do NOT make an introduction post if you have no intention of interacting with us
If you introduce yourself you'll be greeted by BookTalk.org members. We get excited when new people join and we take our time to give them a warm welcome. But if you don't plan to respond don't introduce yourself in the first place.

2. Create your own introduction thread
It is rude to make your introduction in someone else's introduction thread.

3. Use a descriptive subject line for your introduction thread
A subject line shouldn't simply be "Hi" or "My Intro." Try something unique. It is always good to use your username in your intro thread title.

4. If you're an author or publisher do NOT tell us about your books in this forum
We have forums specifically for suggesting books, and this is not one of them. If you spam this forum your account will either be deleted or banned.

Authors & Publishers that would like to share their books with BookTalk.org members and visitors have several options available. For maximum visibility consider advertising on BookTalk.org.

If you're brand new to forums you might want to read our FAQ page.

Post Re: Matthew: Librarian, Blogger, Bibliofreak!
It sounds like a good idea to me Chris, and like Sal said, it seems as though there are enough people around who would interested. I think so long as bloggers are able to link back to their own site from any reviews they write most would be happy to publish exclusively here.

I know what you mean about review copies too, since starting the blog I have been completely flooded. As a book lover, it's wonderful. But, like you say, there simply aren't enough hours in the day :?

Anyway, if you decide to start offering reviews feel free to e-mail or message me. Details on my site (not sure if I'm allowed to post them here).

Hi Matthew :)
Sorry it took me so long to get back with a feedback on your blog. It might sound odd but I think it's got both class, which is as awesome thing. Very readable.
I started browsing from your Ishiguro reviews and since Japanese literature used to be my thing I highly recommend Yasunari for future reference.
I will definitely keep track of your blog since I like what I've seen so far.
Have a lovely day!

Hi Matthew, and welcome.
I liked your site, and was really interested in the Pullman review. Can't wait to get a copy!

Your blog is quite nice. We have tossed around the idea of doing book reviews here on BookTalk.org, but the work involved has been too much for just me to handle. Your blog impressed me and maybe at some point we can do something together. I'm not sure how many readers you have on your site, but we have over 600,000 pages view per month so decent traffic here. Maybe there is a way you can do reviews for BookTalk.org.

I think this is great idea, setting things up so that members can do reviews? I have seen so many interesting comments on books here, it seems like there would be a ton of review talent to mine. You should probably restrict reviewers to senior members that have proven themselves to be capable, maybe setting a high minimum limit of posts (perhaps 500 or 1000), so we don't get a lot of people just trying to promote their own or their friends' books. And leaving the reviews open to comments might generate a lot of interesting replies. :D

Thanks so much Heledd. The Pullman book is a really interesting read. As you probably gathered from my review, I was not totally impressed by the execution, but the idea and the craftsmanship that went into writing the book are both admirable.

Oh come on, no need to thank for an honest opinion :) I actually meant to say "It might sound odd but I think it's got both class and sass, which is as awesome thing." about your blog in my previous post, sorry for typing too fast.
I dabbed into bloging some time ago (in Polish) but never actually had the discipline and motivation to go through with it.

Can you recommend any other good literary blogs?

Haha, well it's always nice to get good feedback :) I don't think anyone has suggested I've got sass before, I'll have to keep an eye on that ;)

Ah, what did you blog about in Polish; books, personal thoughts, something else? You're right, you do need a lot of discipline, I think mine is waning already!

I suppose it depends what you enjoy, John Self's Asylum blog is a good, intelligent place for reviews. Pretty thorough for a blogger.

Hey Bookworm - pleased to meet you :)

My main advice is to enjoy it and do read and write about what gives you pleasure! Once you start blogging there will be a whole bunch of people that want to be featured on your site. Be honest with them, there just isn't the time to read everyone's book! If they fit with your site and you have the time then great, if not politely let them now.

Have fun, and let me know when you are up and running!

Post Re: Matthew: Librarian, Blogger, Bibliofreak!
I managed to get the Pullman book from an online library, which I've never tried before. At the moment, I'm finding it quite a refreshing change from the other stuff I've been reading, but I have to read it on my laptop, which is a bit of a pain.
