Limerick Contest - Win free books for writing the best Limerick!

Welcome to our first Limerick Contest!

We'll be giving away some free books to the members that write the best Limericks. We're looking for Limericks that follow that traditional rhyming pattern of the Limerick. And please do your best to make your Limerick witty, humorous, and/or surprising. You MUST write it yourself to have a chance of winning, but feel free to post any good Limericks you find on the web. Be sure to cite your source if you found it elsewhere and didn't author it yourself. And if you did author it tell us so.

What's the catch? Your Limerick must pertain to books, reading, or BookTalk.org.

There is no set end to the Limerick contest. Let's see how many contributions we can generate and then we'll see about and end date.

Oh, and please keep your Limerick rated G or PG-13.

I Read Banned Books
There once was a ban on Huck Finn
‘cause his friend was labeled an "N."
He sailed on a raft
right out of the past
and now we can read him again.

Yes, I did. 100% all me.

I like this contest, it was an easy way to get me to start writing again. Limericks are easy, as well, very simple meter and rhyme, but that could be my poetry major bias talking. I do love to write and really did miss it so thank you very much for this contest because it's got me started again. Even if it's just limericks, it's still forcing me to write whatever comes out. I like that about form poetry, and will probably start working on villanelles and such again soon. But I really do love these contests, whether I win or not, I'm just happy to write and share writing!

(total nerd. expect more limericks.)

Here's my attempt noting that I don't expect to win, and I probably satisfy the conditional requirement only indirectly but here goes:

I once was a Dawkins flunky,
A theory of evolution junky,
‘Til my research revealed
That the genome failed
Proof of the missing link monkey.

Definitely follows the limerick scheme, maybe not about books exactly, but I still think it's close, and although we don't always agree, I think this is very good. I'm glad to see you participated, as it's shown a different side of you.

There is a spot out there in cyberspace,
That has become quite a meeting place,
On display here are ideas and intuition,
And not too infrequently -superstition.

Pushing the envelope is the activity in play,
Aerobics for neurons, to put it another way,
Creativity is held in esteem,
Propelling our members to further dream.

Topics debated are serious and trivial,
But (well.. usually) the tone remains convivial.

Supreme Leader Chris must sometimes crack the whip,
For those that get on to too weird a trip,
Posters that offer that meat called spam,
Have often felt the back of his hand,
Photons are corralled by the midnightcoder,
If I had his job, I’d go for the whisky and soda.

In a way this trip is bizarre,
Because none knows really, who we are,
Our presence is virtual, with avatar replacing face,
We float about, adrift in electronic space,
With only our writing to decide our grace.

I made this one up but it sounds stolen... I must have heard something like it somewhere.
