Re: It's Not My Mountain Anymore
According to some old timers the name "Appalachian" is derived from the apalachee Indians living here long ago and means, "People of the Other Side." It both describes and defines my people well. Mountain people are Appalachia's greatest resource.
Any disclosure about the Appalachians captures national attention. ABC network's award winning documentary, "Hidden America:Children of the Mountains" captivated over ten million viewers because, to urban America, we are hidden by endless mountain ranges, unique folklore, damnable stereotypes and fierce independence.
Our beloved Foxfire Magazine and over a dozen Foxfire Books have sold over nine million copies and are a national phenomenom.
I wrote It's Not My Mountain Anymore to share with you first-hand accounts of a vanished lifestype that I once knew and loved as a child reared in a humble mountain home within a loving farm family.
The mountains I once knew are not the same. Inevitable changes to both the landscape and its inhabitants clash harshley with cherished memories of a passing era.
Mountain hospitality needs no formal invitation, so drag up a chair, cock up your feet and share the journey. It's filled with appreciation, pride ,love, loss and humor. You won't be sad you bought this book. Promise.
All my best,
