Re: Invite an Atheist to BookTalk
Hmmm Me thinks this is all a bit strange. Seeking atheists? If someone is, then they are, but I hardly think it is relevant to the point of the website. Simply browsing over posts, it feels as if you are trying to start a cult I add the smile only to make you aware that it is said in jest. I simply fail to understand what one's religious beliefs has to do with talking about books. People can freely debate without having to wear a badge that puts forward their religion... I would have thought.

I wasn't aware that atheism was a "way to live". From my understanding, atheism is a lack of belief in a god or gods. There is nothing in that definition that describes a method of living. Is there some other definition for atheism that you can give me so that I understand your meaning?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Invite an Atheist to BookTalk
I know there have a been a number of polls and such on this site to see who is an atheist and who is not... but perhaps the "decline" you are experiencing is not an actual decline in atheists on the site, or even the percentage of atheists, but a lack of interest in the forums that continue to discuss the same stuff over and over again. I personally believe in most everything I've read from the atheists on this site, but I rarely participate in the polls and discussions about atheism and haven't done so since the first few months of membership. Maybe if the discussion were new and exciting or in a challenging format, it would encourage the silent and uninvolved atheists who are already here into participation. I don't know how you guys can enjoy continuing the arguments over and over, there's only so much you can say. Have there ever been any theists converted to atheism or vice versa through the discussion medium on booktalk.org that you know of?

I appreciate your points, but I have to say that we aren't hashing the same things over and over again. The topic of atheism, especially here in (public) Germany, is a rather new one and fundamentalists are in the minority, so it is interesting to see how others feel, especially in another country. Atheism is just as complex as religion. As to converting people, this is certainly not the aim or intent and as such, pointless.
